The purpose of this study was to investigate the activity of LIS-014 in vivo in rats. Its mucoprotective effect was evaluated against the damaging effects of indomethacin administered repeatedly by oral route at a dose of 30 mg/kg per day. In addition, its antisecretory activity was evaluated by pyloric ligation, and finally, its antacid activity was evaluated through a neutralization reaction between LIS-014 and gastric contents. LIS-014 protects the gastric mucosa against the damaging effects of indomethacin. It reduces the surface area of ulcerative lesions in the mucosa of animals treated with the extract compared to the control group. The antisecretory effect of LIS-014 is evidenced by an increase in the pH of gastric juice. LIS-014 also possesses antacid activity; it is capable of directly reducing gastric juice acidity through an acid-base reaction in animals treated with the extract at a dose of 600 mg/kg, the pH was 3.31 ± 0.13 compared to 3.17 ± 0.27 for the mixture of gastric juice and LIS-014 (P > 0.05). These activities may be due to the presence of flavonoids, anthocyanins, tannins, and alkaloids.
