O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a atividade do LIS-014 in vivo em ratos. O seu efeito mucoprotetor foi estudado contra a agressão da indometacina, administrada repetidamente por via oral na dose de 30 mg/kg por dia. Além disso, a sua atividade antisecretora foi estudada através da ligadura do piloro e, por fim, a sua atividade antiácida foi estudada por meio de uma reação de neutralização entre o LIS-014 e o conteúdo gástrico. O LIS-014 protege a mucosa gástrica contra a agressão da indometacina. Reduz a área das lesões ulcerosas na mucosa dos animais tratados com o extrato, em comparação com o grupo de controlo. O efeito antisecretor do LIS-014 é caracterizado pelo aumento do pH do suco gástrico. O LIS-014 possui igualmente uma atividade antiácida, sendo capaz de diminuir diretamente a acidez do suco gástrico através de uma reação ácido-base, nos animais tratados com o extrato na dose de 600 mg/kg, o pH é igual a 3,31 ± 0,13, contra 3,17 ± 0,27 para a mistura do suco gástrico com o LIS-014 (P > 0,05). Estas atividades poderão dever-se à presença de flavonóides, antocianinas, taninos e alcalóides.
