Há uma compreensão crescente de que a liderança está incorporada em vários contextos organizacionais dentro das comunidades escolares, não concentrada centralmente numa pessoa ou num cargo. Inerentes ao cargo estão as responsabilidades pela programação, desenvolvimento curricular, atividades extracurriculares, gestão de pessoal, procedimentos de emergência e operações das instalações. O processo de conclusão deste estudo deixou o investigador com um grande respeito pelo papel abrangente do diretor.
