In Tunisia, l’acqua geotermica è un’importante fonte di energia per le serre, in primo luogo per il riscaldamento e in secondo luogo per l’irrigazione delle colture. Tuttavia, quando la temperatura supera i 38°C a livello del suolo, può causare danni all’apparato radicale, dando origine al problema dello stress termico radicale. Lo scopo di questo studio è valutare la tolleranza della varietà di pomodoro 'Roma' a questo stress sulla base di parametri fisiologici e biochimici. Alla fine del sesto stadio fogliare, le piante di pomodoro coltivate in idroponica sono state sottoposte a diversi shock termici al livello del substrato di 35°C, 39°C e 45°C in presenza di un lotto di controllo posto a 25°C. La raccolta è avvenuta 1, 3 e 6 giorni dopo il trattamento termico. I risultati mostrano che la crescita è stimolata a una temperatura radicale di 35°C. Tuttavia, un effetto depressivo sulla crescita è stato registrato a temperature radicali di 39°C e 45°C. L’aumento della temperatura del substrato da 25°C a 35°C è quindi ottimale per i pomodori, mentre 39°C e 45°C non sono tollerati.
