Nel periodo 2010-2014, il punteggio medio in matematica era del 53,95% contro il 73,72% in lingue, il 68,68% in scienze e l’83,16% in studi sociali. Tuttavia, l’influenza delle caratteristiche personali dell’insegnante non era stata studiata. Ispirandosi alla teoria dei tratti della personalità, lo studio ha utilizzato un disegno di ricerca trasversale su un campione stratificato di 350 studenti e 16 insegnanti in 10 scuole secondarie del distretto di Borama, nel febbraio 2014. Lo studio ha rilevato che il sesso dell’insegnante (t [14] = -.276, p = .785) e la qualifica dell’insegnante (F [1, 14] = .578, p = .568) non hanno avuto un’influenza significativa sul rendimento degli studenti. Tuttavia, l’esperienza degli insegnanti (F [1, 14] = 4,375, p = 0,022) e l’autoefficacia (F [1, 14] = 10,790, p = 0,000) hanno avuto un’influenza significativa sul rendimento degli studenti. Lo studio ha concluso che le caratteristiche personali degli insegnanti influenzano il rendimento degli studenti in matematica. Lo studio raccomanda al MoEHS di condurre un’azione di sensibilizzazione per cambiare l’atteggiamento secondo cui la matematica è una materia adatta ai maschi e di effettuare uno studio sperimentale per determinare l’effetto reale delle caratteristiche personali degli insegnanti sul rendimento degli studenti.
