Zitrusfrüchte sind ein wichtiges Exportprodukt Ägyptens. Die gesamte Anbaufläche für Zitrusfrüchte beträgt etwa 222.302 ha und die Gesamtproduktion wird auf 2.149.349 Tonnen/Jahr geschätzt. Die durchschnittliche Menge an Zitrusfrüchten, die zwischen 1997 und 2000 in verschiedene Länder exportiert wurde, lag zwischen 205.800 und 210.500 Tonnen. Die wichtigsten Zitrussorten, die in Ägypten angebaut werden, sind Baladi Orange, Valencia Orange, Blutorange, Navel Orange, Jaffa Orange, Youssuf Soleiman Orange, Sweet Orange (Succart oder Sukhary), Khalily Orange, Sour Orange, Ägyptische Zitrone, Grapefruit Ducan und Limetten. Es gibt auch kleine Gebiete mit anderen Zitrusfrüchten wie Grapefruit (CAB International, 2000).
