Sesamum indicum L. (Syn. Sesamum orientale L.), auch bekannt unter den Namen Sesam, Til, Gingelly, Simsim, Gergelim usw. Sesam ist eine der ältesten Ölsaatenkulturen der Welt. Die nordindischen Ebenen, Burma und Abessinien einschließlich Somalia und Eritrea sind die wichtigsten Ursprungszentren, wobei Zentralasien ein weiteres Ursprungszentrum von Sesam darstellt. Sesam ist nach Erdnüssen, Raps und Senf die wichtigste Ölsaatenpflanze, die in Indien angebaut wird. Er wird in drei Jahreszeiten angebaut, nämlich Kharif, Semi-Rabi und Sommer. Sesam ist aufgrund seines hochwertigen Speiseöls und seines Proteingehalts besser bekannt als „Königin der Ölsaaten'. Er enthält 44 bis 63 Prozent Öl und 18 bis 20 Prozent Protein. Die vorliegende Untersuchung wurde daher geplant, um verschiedene Keimplasmalinien von Sesam mit folgenden Zielen zu bewerten: 1. Bewertung des Ausmaßes der genetischen Variabilität für wichtige quantitative Merkmale. Bewertung der Art der Verbindung zwischen Ertrag und Ertragseigenschaften. Identifizierung des potenziellen genetischen Bestands für zukünftige Züchtungsprogramme.
