The determination that a child’s welfare is at risk is crucial for social-educational intervention. Nevertheless, there is often uncertainty as to which criteria must be applied to establish that a child’s welfare is at risk. In this book, further criteria are developed, taking into account the legal framework and existing assessment forms for determining a risk to a child’s wellbeing. In order, above all, to provide indicators that point to a risk to psychogenesis, the author draws primarily on models from developmental psychology. The main point of reference is Erik H. Erikson’s model. Further concepts by Piaget, Vygotsky and others are drawn upon for supplementary and comparative analysis. The criteria, clearly summarised at the end, are intended to help professionals, as well as committed parents and members of the public, to sharpen their awareness and thus contribute confidently and effectively to the child’s healthy development.
