Food as a biocultural phenomenon expresses traditional wisdom as a set of knowledge, practices, uses, technologies, and strategies related to the natural resource environment. The peoples of the Caatinga, using traditional knowledge accumulated over generations and transmitted orally, live with water scarcity and work in the face of the region’s climatic adversities. The Pankararé, as a Brazilian indigenous ethnic group, represent a small part of the traditional peoples who live in the semi-arid northeast. This book presents the results of bibliographic and documentary research, which allows for a deeper understanding of this people, their culture, their ecological relationships with the environment, and their social relationships. To this end, Chapter 1 provides a general description of the area studied and the social actors involved in the research, as well as a documentary bibliographic review using the scientometric method of works already developed with the Pankararé ethnic group, while Chapter 2 presents data on dietary changes within the Pankararé culture.
