Bildung ist das Mittel zur Bekämpfung von Armut, zur Förderung von Frieden, sozialer Gerechtigkeit, Menschenrechten, Demokratie, kultureller Vielfalt und Umweltbewusstsein. Die Bildung von Mädchen ist jedoch durch niedrige Einschulungsquoten und hohe Abbruchquoten gekennzeichnet. Im Zeitraum 2011-2013 brachen weltweit 11 % der Mädchen die Sekundarschule ab, in Afrika waren es 58 % und in Somaliland 37,9 %. Diese Studie untersuchte die Faktoren, die die Abbrecherabsicht von Mädchen an öffentlichen Sekundarschulen im Bezirk Borama in Somaliland beeinflussen, und verwendete dazu ein Querschnittsdesign mit einer geschichteten Zufallsstichprobe von 322 Mädchen im November 2014. Es wurde festgestellt, dass der sozioökonomische Status (F [1, 322] = 3,871, p = 0,003, R = -0,631, R2 adj = 0,393), soziokulturelle Faktoren (F [1, 322] = 3,871, p = 0,000, R = -213, R2 adj = 0,042) und Faktoren der Gemeinschaft (F [1, 322] = 3,871, R = -329, p = 0,000, R2 adj = 0,105) einen signifikanten Einfluss auf die Absicht der Mädchen haben, die Schule abzubrechen. Die Studie kam zu dem Schluss, dass der sozioökonomische Status der Hauptfaktor ist, der die Absicht der Mädchen, die öffentliche Sekundarschule abzubrechen, beeinflusst. Das MoEHS sollte Stipendien oder eine allgemeine Sekundarschulbildung für Mädchen bereitstellen und Strategien und alternative Bildungsprogramme entwickeln, um insbesondere die Bildung von Mädchen zu fördern.
