Questo libro si concentra sulle relazioni bambino-bambino e bambino-insegnante nei giochi svolti in una classe della scuola materna e in un’altra del primo anno della scuola elementare. I soggetti erano diciassette bambini di una classe della scuola materna di circa cinque anni e venticinque bambini del primo anno della scuola elementare di sei anni in media, oltre alle loro insegnanti. La raccolta dei dati è stata effettuata attraverso l’osservazione partecipante della routine dei gruppi di bambini con registrazioni scritte in diari di campo e fotografie. L’analisi dei dati rivela che nelle relazioni bambino-bambino durante i giochi, essi interpretano ruoli e condividono conoscenze sui generi femminile e maschile mentre costruiscono le loro identità. Sottolinea inoltre che nelle relazioni tra bambini questi ultimi si organizzano, creano regole, scelgono giochi, giocattoli e compagni e gestiscono i propri giochi; nelle relazioni tra bambini e insegnanti, le insegnanti condividono con i bambini il protagonismo delle scelte, della routine e delle attività, contribuendo alla costruzione dell’autonomia dei bambini.
