Esta profissão tem sido dominada por homens durante todos esses anos e, até hoje, o número de mulheres continua a ser significativamente baixo. Não é apenas o mundo empresarial americano que deve ser responsabilizado pelo número mais baixo de mulheres em comparação com os homens nas profissões de tecnologia da informação; as instituições de ensino também fazem parte do problema. As mulheres têm estado sub-representadas e mal remuneradas em comparação com os homens nas profissões de tecnologia da informação desde o início da tecnologia. As instituições de ensino precisam de encontrar formas de aumentar e reter o número de mulheres nos seus programas de tecnologia da informação. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar por que razão as mulheres decidem ingressar nos programas de tecnologia da informação da Universidade de Wisconsin - Eau Claire e as razões pelas quais permanecem.
