W niniejszym badaniu przeanalizowano różnice w środowisku rodzinnym uczniów w kontekście ich wyników w nauce w gminie Ibadan North-East w mieście Ibadan w Nigerii. Zbadano różne, sprzeczne ze sobą badania dotyczące wpływu środowiska społeczno-ekonomicznego tych struktur rodzinnych na osiągnięcia szkolne dzieci. Badaniem objęto łącznie 220 uczniów w wieku od 10 do 15 lat uczęszczających do gimnazjum (N=220) oraz 8 nauczycieli. Badanie wykazało, że nie ma istotnych różnic w poziomie osiągnięć szkolnych uczniów i pochodzeniu etnicznym, natomiast stwierdzono istotną różnicę między religiami uczniów z rodzin monogamicznych i poligamicznych w różnych obserwowanych strukturach rodzinnych. Jednak poziom umiejętności obsługi komputera większości uczniów okazał się niski. Nie stwierdzono istotnych różnic w poziomie wykształcenia rodziców uczniów i ich statusie zawodowym. W badaniu zalecono: konieczność skutecznego zaangażowania rodziców w działalność akademicką dzieci, wdrożenie strategicznego programu inicjatyw mającego na celu pomoc dzieciom znajdującym się w niekorzystnej sytuacji społeczno-ekonomicznej oraz ogólną poprawę poziomu umiejętności czytania i pisania uczniów.
