A literatura ecológica é concebida como uma experiência de representação do mundo ecológico no mundo literário. Ela estabelece claramente uma relação de continuidade entre o imaginário e a realidade física da ecologia. Ela prevê os processos de comunicação em todos os estratos da vida e, com base nisso, constrói uma concepção ecológica do discurso narrativo na sua capacidade de descrever com precisão as relações que ocorrem entre, por um lado, os elementos percebidos em um determinado ambiente natural e, por outro, a interpretação que é oferecida através da expressão literária. Baseia-se em mecanismos linguísticos ecológicos e amplia a beleza da paisagem natural, urbana e turística. Estigmatiza as grandes crises ecológicas: caça furtiva, desmatamento, poluição, aquecimento global, epidemias, desordem urbana e promove valores ecológicos: ecoturismo, agroalimentação, ecoflorestação responsável, gestão sustentável dos resíduos, pandemias, guerras e desastres, patrimônio cultural, economia digital, desenvolvimento sustentável, proteção da natureza, biodiversidade e eco-cidadania.
