Etwa 10 Prozent aller Gefäßpflanzen der Welt sind Epiphyten (Aufsitzerpflanzen). In diesem Buch werden die Floristik, die Struktur und die räumliche Verteilung der epiphytischen Gefäßpflanzengemeinschaft in geschützten und ungeschützten Waldfragmenten im Einzugsgebiet des Flusses Sorocaba/Médio Tietê beschrieben, das drei Vegetationstypen aufweist: Cerrado (CER), sommergrüner saisonaler Wald (FES) und dichter ombrophiler Wald (FOD). In jedem Vegetationstyp wurden sieben Waldfragmente untersucht. Insgesamt wurden 1080 Forophyten bewertet und in sechs vertikale Schichten unterteilt. Wir erfassten 176 epiphytische Arten, die zu 66 Gattungen und 14 Familien gehören; H’=3,695; J=0,713; DMg=18,39. Von den Arten waren 56 % anemochorisch und 44 % zoochorisch. Die größte floristische Ähnlichkeit wurde zwischen CER und FES festgestellt; FOD wies die höchste Anzahl an exklusiven Arten auf (94 spp.). Die vertikale Verteilung war unterschiedlich zwischen CER und FOD sowie zwischen FES und FOD, aber ähnlich zwischen FES und CER. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die epiphytische Gemeinschaft von der Luftfeuchtigkeit abhängig ist. Das Vorhandensein von 50 Arten, die in gewissem Maße bedroht sind, ist ein starkes Argument für die Erhaltung von Waldfragmenten im Einzugsgebiet.
