Einst als Mittel zur Festlegung der schulischen Einstufung angesehen, werden Hochstufentests heute zur Festlegung von Erfolgskriterien innerhalb des Schulsystems verwendet. In einem Schulbezirk in Utah wurde aufgrund stetig sinkender Testergebnisse im Sprachunterricht der 8. Klasse über eine Anhebung dieser Kriterien diskutiert, was zu erhöhter Besorgnis unter den lokalen Schulverwaltungen und Lehrern geführt hat. Der Zweck dieser phänomenologischen Studie war es, die Wahrnehmung der Lehrer hinsichtlich der Verbesserung der sinkenden Testergebnisse in Sprachunterricht der 8. Klasse zu untersuchen. Basierend auf den theoretischen Konzepten des Konstruktivismus wurden drei Forschungsfragen erstellt, um die zugrunde liegenden Faktoren für den stetigen Rückgang der Testergebnisse in Sprachunterricht der 8. Klasse, die Wahrnehmung der Lehrer hinsichtlich des Rückgangs der Testergebnisse der 8. Klasse und die aktuellen Unterrichtspraktiken zu untersuchen.
