W ciągu ostatnich kilku dekad edukacja ekologiczna pojawiła się jako instrument zrównoważonego rozwoju, aby przyczynić się do nowych wyzwań stawianych przez rozwój sił wytwórczych, zwłaszcza pod koniec XIX wieku, wraz z modernizacją rolnictwa, a przede wszystkim z rozwojem przemysłu o dużym potencjale zanieczyszczeń. Nasza praca rozpoczęła się od badań, które są uzupełnieniem naszej interwencji na Semi-Edu 2015 - Edukacja i jej znaczenie w cyfrowym świecie - Cuiabá/MT. Nasze badania miały na celu zidentyfikowanie percepcji studentów na kursie zarządzania środowiskiem w Federalnym Instytucie Rondônia - IFRO - Colorado do Oeste Campus. Pomimo znaczenia tej wstępnej publikacji, uważamy, że istnieje potrzeba poszerzenia naszego pola dyskusji w kontekście wyzwań edukacji środowiskowej. Konieczne jest sproblematyzowanie naszej dziedziny pracy w takim stopniu, aby była ona w stanie wyrazić bardziej dogłębną analizę w celu bardziej autentycznego zajęcia się edukacją środowiskową, a to zakłada, że wykraczamy poza raporty akademickie i spostrzeżenia.
