Es wurden Studien zur Austrocknungstoleranz und zu den Keimungseigenschaften von Samen dreier lokaler Arten in Burkina Faso durchgeführt, nämlich Parinari curatellifolia, Vitex doniana und Zanthoxylum zanthoxyloides. Der Feuchtigkeitsgehalt der Samen bei der Ernte war artenabhängig, nahm jedoch bei allen drei Arten vom unreifen zum reifen Stadium ab. Frische Samen aller drei Arten keimten nicht, unabhängig vom Reifegrad der Früchte, aus denen sie gewonnen wurden. Nach dem Trocknen bei einem Feuchtigkeitsgehalt von ca. 5 % keimten die Samen von Vitex doniana, die ohne Vorbehandlung ausgesät wurden, zu 4 %, 2 % bzw. 36 % bei Samen, die aus grünen Früchten, mittelreifen Früchten und reifen (schwarzen) Früchten gewonnen wurden, während nur Samen, die aus reifen Früchten von Zanthoxylum zanthoxyloides gewonnen wurden, zu 3 % keimten. Wie bei frischen Samen wurde auch bei getrockneten Samen von Parinari curatellifolia keine Keimung verzeichnet, unabhängig davon, aus welchem Reifestadium der Früchte die Samen extrahiert wurden. Dieses schwierige Keimverhalten der drei Arten erlaubte keine Rückschlüsse auf die Austrocknungstoleranz ihrer jeweiligen Samen.
