Des études sur la tolérance à la dessiccation et les caractéristiques de germination des graines de trois espèces locales du Burkina Faso, à savoir Parinari curatellifolia, Vitex doniana et Zanthoxylum zanthoxyloides, ont été réalisées. La teneur en eau des graines au moment de la récolte dépendait de l’espèce mais diminuait pour les trois espèces du stade immature au stade mature. Les graines fraîches des trois espèces, quel que soit le stade de maturité des fruits dont elles ont été extraites, n’ont pas germé. Après séchage à ~ 5 % d’humidité, les graines de Vitex doniana, semées sans prétraitement, ont germé à des pourcentages de 4, 2 et 36 % respectivement pour les graines extraites des fruits verts, des fruits intermédiaires et des fruits matures (noirs), tandis que seules les graines extraites des fruits matures de Zanthoxylum zanthoxyloides ont germé à un pourcentage de 3 %. Comme pour les graines fraîches, aucune germination n’a été enregistrée pour les graines séchées de Parinari curatellifolia, quel que soit le stade de maturité des fruits dont les graines ont été extraites. Ce comportement de germination difficile des trois espèces ne nous a pas permis de conclure sur la tolérance à la dessiccation de leurs graines respectives.
