Skutki deformacji spowodowane trzęsieniem ziemi z 19 września 2017 r. o magnitudzie M=7,1 spowodowały osłabienie konstrukcji ponad 2000 budynków edukacyjnych. Jednak alternatywne rozwiązanie polegające na zastosowaniu syntetycznych włókien polimerowych wygenerowało nową oczekiwaną długość życia tych budynków; zwiększając ich nośność nawet 10-krotnie w stosunku do pierwotnej wartości. W związku z tym przeanalizowano zachowanie konstrukcyjne budynków szkolnych zbudowanych w latach 70. i 90. pod kierownictwem Comité Administrador del Programa Federal de Construcción de Escuelas (CAPFCE), weryfikując ich nośność pod kątem aktualnych wymogów prawnych i określając ich możliwe wzmocnienie konstrukcyjne za pomocą włókien węglowych. Na koniec zasugerowano kryteria wzmocnienia ich elementów nośnych, gwarantując w ten sposób zachowanie budynków i długowieczność ich mieszkańców.
