Die vorliegende Studie wurde durchgeführt, um die Reaktion von aus der wiederkehrenden Selektion stammenden Linien zu bewerten, indem (C3)-Linien auf genetische Variabilität, genetischen Fortschritt und Heritabilität untersucht wurden, und um die Auswirkungen der Selektion auf andere quantitative Merkmale zu beurteilen. Die 16 Halbgeschwisterfamilien, die aus dem 3. Zyklus der wiederkehrenden Selektion ausgewählt wurden, wurden zur Bewertung in einem randomisierten Blockversuch im Rabi-Saison 2009-10 zusammen mit den Vergleichssorten Bhima und A1 angebaut. Der erwartete genetische Fortschritt, ausgedrückt als Prozentsatz des Populationsmittelwerts bei einer Selektionsintensität von 10 Prozent, war für den Samenertrag pro Parzelle (48,44) am höchsten, gefolgt vom Samenertrag pro Pflanze (28,88). Der erwartete genetische Fortschritt in Prozent gegenüber Bhima bei einer Selektionsintensität von 10 Prozent war für den Samenertrag pro Parzelle (28,27) am höchsten, gefolgt vom Samenertrag pro Pflanze (22,78). Bei der Saflorsorte korrelierte der Samenertrag pro Pflanze positiv und signifikant mit der Reifezeit, der Anzahl der Blütenköpfe pro Pflanze, der Anzahl der Samen pro Blütenkopf und dem 100-Samen-Gewicht. Die Reifezeit und der Samenertrag pro Pflanze wiesen eine signifikante positive Korrelation auf. Zwei Halbgeschwisterfamilien wurden für die Prüfung in einem vorläufigen Ertragsbewertungsversuch identifiziert.
