La présente étude a été menée afin d’évaluer la réponse des lignées issues de la sélection récurrente en testant les lignées dérivées de (C3) sur la variabilité génétique, le progrès génétique et l’héritabilité, et d’évaluer l’effet de la sélection sur d’autres caractères quantitatifs. Les 16 familles de demi-frères et sœurs, sélectionnées lors du 3e cycle de sélection récurrente, ont été cultivées à des fins d’évaluation selon un plan en blocs randomisés pendant la saison rabi 2009-2010, aux côtés des variétés témoins Bhima et A1. L’avancement génétique attendu, exprimé en pourcentage de la moyenne de la population à un niveau de sélection de 10 %, était élevé pour le rendement en graines par parcelle (48,44), suivi du rendement en graines par plante (28,88). L’avancement génétique attendu en pourcentage par rapport à Bhima, à un niveau de sélection de 10 %, était élevé pour le rendement en graines par parcelle (28,27), suivi du rendement en graines par plante (22,78). Dans le carthame, le rendement en graines par plante était positivement et significativement corrélé au nombre de jours jusqu’à la maturité, au nombre de capitules par plante, au nombre de graines par capitule et au poids de 100 graines. Le nombre de jours jusqu’à la maturité et le rendement en graines par plante présentaient une corrélation positive et significative. Deux familles de demi-frères et sœurs ont été identifiées pour être testées dans le cadre d’un essai préliminaire d’évaluation du rendement.
