O surgimento das ferramentas da Web 2.0 facilitou muito a criação de conteúdos online. Este conceito em evolução enfatiza o facto de que o utilizador agora pode participar facilmente na entrega de conteúdos da Web. O trabalho apresenta dois estudos empíricos no contexto do ensino superior. O primeiro estudo visa compreender a utilidade percebida pelos docentes das ferramentas da Web 2.0 para as práticas de ensino. Ele reúne as opiniões de 681 professores de 11 instituições. Os modelos integrativos gerados revelaram que as atitudes e a autoeficácia foram consideradas preditores positivos das intenções dos professores de usar e do uso real da Web 2.0. As normas sociais foram consideradas influentes na intenção dos professores de usar a Web 2.0, mas os membros do corpo docente foram influenciados significativamente apenas por seus pares, e não por seus superiores nem por seus alunos. O segundo estudo foi realizado com a população estudantil. Baseia-se numa amostra de 550 estudantes de cinco instituições. Nos modelos integrativos, verificou-se que as atitudes e intenções dos estudantes de utilizar a Web 2.0 para complementar a sua aprendizagem em sala de aula foram positivamente afetadas pela autoeficácia social, pela autoestima coletiva e pela dimensão do autoconceito rotulado como impulsividade/atividade.
