Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht das Zusammenspiel zwischen irregulärer Migration und Menschenrechten unter besonderer Berücksichtigung verschiedener Phasen des Migrationszyklus. Die meisten wissenschaftlichen Migrationsstudien zu Ghana befassen sich mit regulären Migranten mit mittlerer und hoher Qualifikation und konzentrieren sich dabei auf die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung des Landes (Kleist 2011, 5; 8-11). Die vorliegende Arbeit beleuchtet daher die Bedeutung der Erfahrungen jener Gruppe von ungelernten und gering qualifizierten irregulären Migranten, die sich auf den Weg durch die Sahara und über das Mittelmeer machen. Die Analyse umfasst die Frage, inwiefern Verletzungen wirtschaftlicher, sozialer und kultureller Rechte (ESCR) Menschen zur Migration zwingen, sowie die Verletzungen sowohl bürgerlicher und politischer Rechte (CPR) als auch wirtschaftlicher, sozialer und kultureller Rechte (ESCR), die mit der unregulierten Bewegung irregulärer Migranten einhergehen. Nach der Darstellung des rechtlichen, sozialen und politischen Rahmens der Migration von Ghana in die EU auf der Grundlage von Interviews mit Vertretern der Elite präsentiert der Beitrag originäre qualitative Analysen von Interviews mit irregulären Migranten in unterschiedlichen Situationen, nämlich mit nach Ghana zurückgekehrten Migranten, mit irregulären Migranten, die sich in Transitländern wie Libyen niedergelassen haben, sowie mit irregulären Migranten, die sich in Zielländern wie Italien niedergelassen ha
