The human sense of hearing can derive information not only from asound impulse with respect to the source of the sound and the signal emanating from it, but, within certain limits, can also detect the direction of sound in cidence, the distance from the sound source and - in the case of sounds within closed areas - specific characteristics of these areas. The knowledge that our sense of hearing possesses these capabilities is of importance for certain tech nical processes of transmission and, conversely, new technical processes of transmission open up new research possibilities in the field of spatial hearing. Magnifizenz Professor DrAng.

While the great scientists of the past recognized a need for a multidisciplinary approach, today’s schools often treat math and science as subjects separate from the rest. This not only creates a disinterest among students, but also a potential learning gap once students reach college and then graduate into the workforce. My first contact with him goes back to the late 1950s, when I was at the Institute for Advanced Study, and then evolved when I was a consultant at General Atomics in La Jolla, California. Freeman was then trying to design a space ship — the Orion — which would be propelled by atomic bo...
