O presente livro descreve a configuração experimental para a produção de plasma frio gasoso (N2, O2, H2, etc.) e a sua aplicação para modificar os materiais, principalmente os materiais fibrosos. A configuração foi concebida localmente no Instituto de Física (IOP), Bhubaneswar, Índia. A presente configuração é utilizada para a modificação de superfícies de diversos materiais. Consiste em diferentes partes com diferentes funções. Um cilindro de gás N2 puro foi acoplado com uma válvula de controlo para regular a entrada de gás (0,2 lpm). O vácuo da cambagem foi obtido na ordem dos 2×10-5 bar utilizando uma combinação de sistema de bombagem rotativo e turbomolecular. Uma fonte de alimentação de RF de alta tensão de cerca de 1kV foi fornecida aos elétrodos dentro da câmara de vácuo utilizando uma unidade de fonte de alimentação de alta tensão (gamas de tensão de 0 a 5 kV; gamas de corrente de saída de 0 a 100 μA, gamas de frequência de 10 MHz). As fibras poliméricas e qualquer superfície sólida podem ser modificadas utilizando os materiais de configuração de plasma frio atualmente concebidos, viz. metais(Cu, ​​​​Au, Ag, etc.).
