Ryż (Oryza Sativa. L) jest podstawowym pożywieniem, a w Pakistanie uprawia się go na obszarze 5547 tysięcy ton. Wydajność upraw ryżu można zwiększyć poprzez stosowanie pestycydów, ale po zastosowaniu tych toksycznych środków chemicznych na uprawach ryżu pozostają ich pozostałości. Obecność tych pestycydów może stanowić bezpośrednie lub pośrednie zagrożenie dla ludzi i środowiska. W związku z tym przeprowadzono niniejsze badanie w celu oszacowania poziomu pozostałości niektórych wybranych pestycydów chloroorganicznych (OCP) w ziarnach ryżu i próbkach słomy pobranych z różnych obszarów Pendżabu w Pakistanie. Zgodnie z niniejszym badaniem nie zaobserwowano istotnych różnic między wszystkimi próbkami pobranymi z różnych miejsc. Jednak poziom OCP w słomie ryżowej i ziarnach ryżu przekraczał maksymalne limity pozostałości (MRL). Spożywanie ziaren ryżu przez ludzi może w dłuższej perspektywie stanowić zagrożenie dla zdrowia. Podobnie zwierzęta nie są bezpieczne, spożywając słomę ryżową jako paszę.
