Prosvjetiteljska koncepcija vaspitanja u Srba se krajem 18. vijeka sa zakašnjenjem počela razvijati. Prosvjetiteljska koncepcija vaspitanja nastala je i razvila se kao integralni dio humanističko-prosvjetiteljskog pokreta. Njeno osnovno izvorište predstavljaju filozofsko sociološke ideje mnogih evropskih prosvjetitelja i napredne evropske misli. Takva koncepcija nije bila originalna ali je predstavljala epohalni napredak za srpsku pedagogiju, školu i vaspitanje. Veliki broj srpskih prosvjetitelja nastojao je da stvori novu koncepciju vaspitanja. Vjerovali su u neograničene moći vaspitanja i smatrali da jedino ono može promjeniti društvo. Poseban doprinos konstituisanju nove koncepcije vaspitanja dao je prvi srpski prosvjetitelj i učitelj Sveti Sava, kao i drugi prosvjetitelji i pedagozi poput Teodora Jankovića Mirijevskog, Dositeja Obradovića, Vuka Stefanovića Karadžića, Svetozara Markovića, Vase Pelagića, Đorđa Natoševića i Vojislava Bakića. Autor u ovoj knjizi predstavlja osnovne pedagoške ideje navedenih prosvjetitelja i pedagoga, njihove poglede na nastavu, učenje i vaspitanje, određenje cilja vaspitanja kao i poglede na novu školu.
