Zmiany klimatyczne są złożonym problemem bez jasnych rozwiązań naukowych i politycznych. Celem tej pracy jest zbadanie uwarunkowań i wymiarów społecznego rozumienia i reagowania na zmiany klimatyczne, co mogłoby pomóc w opracowaniu skutecznych strategii komunikacji publicznej i wykonalnej polityki łagodzenia ich skutków. W niniejszym studium wykorzystano mieszane podejście metodologiczne w celu zbadania różnych potencjalnie istotnych wpływów na postrzeganie i zachowanie w odpowiedzi na zmiany klimatyczne. W celu wybrania 172 reprezentatywnych próbek z miasta Dhaka w Bangladeszu zastosowano procedurę celowego losowania. Wyniki wskazują, że istnieje solidna świadomość i poparcie dla ogólnych celów środowiskowych na poziomie lokalnym; świadomość i troska o zmiany klimatyczne, ale ograniczone zrozumienie naukowych przyczyn, możliwych konsekwencji i rozwiązań problemu; znaczące postrzegane zagrożenie zmianami klimatycznymi, chociaż nie jest to kwestia 'palnika czołowego' w porównaniu z innymi społeczno-ekonomicznymi i środowiskowymi zagadnieniami. Niniejsza teza jest próbą sformułowania pewnych nieśmiałych zaleceń dotyczących sposobu, w jaki postrzeganie zmian klimatycznych przez społeczność może być wykorzystane przez decydentów w Bangladeszu.
