L’introduzione intenzionale o accidentale di specie bioinvasive in nuovi ambienti provoca uno squilibrio della fauna e della flora con conseguenze per l’ambiente, tra cui la riduzione della biodiversità locale. In Sud America, in particolare, la bioinvasione della cozza dorata, Limnoperna fortunei (Dunker, 1857), proveniente dai fiumi cinesi, si è rapidamente diffusa in importanti fiumi brasiliani. Questo mollusco bivalve invasivo causa danni economici e ambientali ed è motivo di preoccupazione per le autorità competenti in relazione alla sua presenza nel Paese. Il presente lavoro ha lo scopo di riportare il caso di studio sulla presenza della cozza dorata nella città di Araçatuba/SP, attraverso una lezione sul tema agli studenti del Centro di Progressione Penitenziaria di Valparaíso/SP, dall’introduzione, alle caratteristiche biologiche e alle forme di prevenzione della sua proliferazione in altri ambienti.
