Diese Studie untersucht die Rolle der sozialen Medien bei der Förderung des Engagements und der Zufriedenheit von Universitätsstudenten in Afrika. Sie zeigt, wie Plattformen wie Facebook und WhatsApp die akademische Zusammenarbeit erleichtern und eine kontinuierliche Interaktion zwischen Gleichaltrigen und Lehrkräften fördern, wodurch die Bildungserfahrung bereichert wird. Unter Verwendung der Nutzungs- und Befriedigungstheorie zeigt die Studie, dass Studenten soziale Medien aktiv für akademische Zwecke nutzen, insbesondere in Nigeria. Soziale Medien fördern zwar die Vernetzung und das Engagement auf dem Campus, lenken aber auch von den Aktivitäten im Klassenzimmer ab. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass ein ausgewogener Ansatz für die Integration sozialer Medien in die Hochschulbildung erforderlich ist, der die Vorteile maximiert und gleichzeitig die potenziellen Nachteile berücksichtigt.
