Il fagiolo dall’occhio (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) è una coltura di grande importanza economica e sociale, in particolare nella regione nord-orientale del Brasile. Il fagiolo caupì è un legume ampiamente coltivato nelle regioni semiaride dell’Africa, degli Stati Uniti e del Brasile. Nelle regioni settentrionali e nord-orientali del Brasile, questa coltura presenta un enorme potenziale grazie alla tradizione nella sua coltivazione, commercio e consumo. Nel panorama agricolo, sono sempre più frequenti i problemi legati all’eccesso di sali nel suolo e nell’acqua, nonché alla scarsità di quest’ultima nella regione di produzione. Il presente lavoro costituisce un’importante fonte di consultazione per comprendere gli effetti sia della salinità che dello stress idrico sullo sviluppo delle piante, in questo caso più specificamente incentrato sulla coltivazione del fagiolo caupí.
