Niniejsza książka stanowi podsumowanie badań przeprowadzonych w celu zbadania wpływu działań w ramach wspólnego zarządzania lasami (JFM) na 10 lasów naturalnych we wschodniej części Godavari (lasy rezerwatowe Pothavaram, Mallavaram, Gedhada i Murari), Srikakulam (lasy rezerwatowe Burna i Baliagam) Vizayanagaram (Shikargangii RF) i Visakhapatnam (Korra, Maribanda i Darakonda RF), obejmujących całe obszary północnego wybrzeża stanu Andhra Pradesh w Indiach. Czynniki edoficzne i klimatyczne w tych lasach różnią się od siebie. Badanie pomogło zidentyfikować rzadkie i zagrożone gatunki w lasach mieszanych. Na tej podstawie można podjąć działania mające na celu ochronę różnorodności biologicznej. Promowanie JFM nie tylko poprawia stan zdegradowanych lasów, ale także zmniejsza presję biotyczną na obszary leśne. Działania JFM okazały się skuteczne w poprawie wzrostu i regeneracji lasów.
