Os bioplásticos à base de amido são uma alternativa sustentável e biodegradável aos plásticos convencionais. Neste estudo, o bioplástico foi preparado utilizando o amido como agente aglutinante e o glicerol como plastificante, com a celulose como material de reforço. A celulose foi extraída da fibra da folha de ananás (PALF), um resíduo agrícola abundante, através do pré-tratamento da fibra, branqueamento e hidrólise ácida. O pré-tratamento da PALF foi efectuado para melhorar a adesão fibra-matriz e melhorar as propriedades mecânicas do bioplástico, particularmente a resistência à tração e ao impacto, bem como a durabilidade e a resistência à água. O bioplástico foi fabricado através do aquecimento de uma mistura de farinha de milho, vinagre, glicerol e água destilada a 80-90 °C durante 60 minutos com agitação contínua, seguido de moldagem e secagem a 70-80 °C durante 6-8 horas para obter uma película uniforme. As folhas bioplásticas finais foram acondicionadas à temperatura ambiente e avaliadas através de testes de solubilidade em água, degradação do solo, absorção de água, medição da espessura e dureza para avaliar as suas propriedades físicas e aplicabilidade prática.
