Reis ist eine der wichtigsten Kulturpflanzen in der Landwirtschaft weltweit. Indien ist der zweitgrößte Reiserzeuger der Welt. Die Produktivität von Reis in Indien beträgt weniger als 50 % derjenigen von China. Hochlandreis wird auf regengespeisten Feldern angebaut, die nach dem Trocknen vorbereitet und ausgesät werden. Die alten Reissorten, die in der Marathwada-Region angebaut wurden, waren hochwüchsig und resistent gegen Eisenchlorose, erfüllten jedoch nicht die Anforderungen der Verbraucher an lange, schlanke Körner und basmatiartige Kornqualitäten wie Duft, mittlerer Amylosegehalt, Abwesenheit von Weißgürteln und Weichheit beim Kochen. In diesem Buch werden anhand von 12 verschiedenen Reisgenotypen die Variationen der physiologischen Eigenschaften, der Erträge und ihrer Attribute sowie die Untersuchung des Kornertrags und der morphologischen Parameter behandelt.
