Cette étude de cas ethnographique porte sur la médiation de la lecture et la formation des lecteurs dans le contexte d’un Farol do Saber (phare de la connaissance) au sein du réseau municipal de bibliothèques scolaires de Curitiba (RMBE). La recherche est structurée en trois phases : la phase exploratoire, la collecte des données et la phase d’analyse systématique. Le support théorique de la recherche est ancré dans les travaux de chercheurs dans le domaine de la lecture et de l’éducation des lecteurs, ainsi que dans les études sur les bibliothèques scolaires. L’accompagnement de la vie quotidienne du Farol do Saber problématise le rôle de cet espace dans la formation des lecteurs. En observant la mise en œuvre d’actions planifiées par les agents de lecture impliquant la lecture et le récit, elle rend compte des limites et des possibilités du Farol do Saber pour l’éducation des lecteurs. Elle examine la qualité des collections et l’importance d’une médiation de qualité pour la formation d’un lecteur compétent. Au vu des données recueillies dans l’espace étudié, la nécessité d’une plus grande intégration entre le Farol do Saber et l’école est soulignée. Il est également évident que les collections et l’espace du Phare de la connaissance sont peu utilisés et que la fonction du Phare de la connaissance en tant que lieu privilégié d’accès à la lecture doit être repensée.
