Il rapido aumento del numero di automobili ha causato notevoli problemi ambientali, in particolare l’inquinamento da gas di scarico delle auto. Le emissioni di gas di scarico dei veicoli sono una delle principali cause di problemi ambientali come lo smog, la riduzione dell’ozono, le piogge acide, oltre a gravi malattie respiratorie e agenti cancerogeni. I problemi ambientali causati dal crescente numero di automobili non possono essere affrontati solo con la naturale capacità di autodepurazione.Il biossido di titanio (TiO2) è ampiamente utilizzato nella ricerca sui materiali stradali per la riduzione delle emissioni dei veicoli, grazie alla sua eccellente resistenza alla corrosione, alle forti proprietà catalitiche, alla semplicità del processo di preparazione, al basso costo e alle stabili proprietà chimiche. Questo studio si concentra sui materiali per pavimentazione in asfalto, conducendo esperimenti sulla preparazione di miscele di asfalto permeabili rivestite con materiali fotocatalitici, sulle prestazioni di degradazione dei materiali fotocatalitici nano TiO2 sui gas di scarico e sulle prestazioni complessive del rivestimento con materiali fotocatalitici nano TiO2. La ricerca mira a degradare cataliticamente i gas di scarico delle automobili attraverso la pavimentazione in asfalto, riducendo i rischi per la salute associati alle emissioni dei veicoli e alleviando l’inquinamento ambientale.
