Praca ta jest wynikiem badań przeprowadzonych w ramach studiów magisterskich, których głównym celem była analiza pisemnych wspomnień nauczycieli pierwszych klas, pełniących rolę intelektualistów, którzy podczas Pierwszej i/lub Drugiej Republiki zyskali rozgłos dzięki swojej działalności w lokalnej prasie, stowarzyszeniach kulturalnych i polityce. Są oni przedstawicielami republikanizmu, który ugruntował się dzięki pozycji nauczyciela jako intelektualisty. Przeanalizowaliśmy wiadomości z gazet, fragmenty poezji, lokalne bibliografie, różne oficjalne zapisy i natrafiliśmy na proces interakcji, jaki grupa nauczycieli-intelektualistów nawiązała z kontekstem republikańskim, korzystając z możliwości, jakie dawał im ich „status' nauczycieli pierwszych klas. Powróciliśmy do kategorii nauczyciela-intelektualisty i przyjęliśmy pamięć historyczną jako podstawową koncepcję, w jej wersji jako pamięć historyczna dokumentalna lub po prostu pamięć zapisana jako rejestr wspólnych doświadczeń, indywidualnych lub grupowych, w danym momencie historycznym.
