Texturell unausgereift, aber in der Zusammensetzung ausgereift, weisen sie eine schlechte Sortierung und reichlich Quarzmineralien auf. Die petrographische Analyse lässt auf einen gemischten Ursprung aus magmatischen und metamorphen Quellen schließen, was durch das Vorhandensein von Mineraleinschlüssen wie Zirkon und Turmalin bestätigt wird. Sandsteine mit hohem Quarzgehalt besitzen wahrscheinlich eine bessere Lagerstättenqualität.
