Au cours de notre vie éducative, les collèges et universités des États-Unis semblaient sur le point d’innover dans le domaine de l’enseignement post-secondaire en proposant un enseignement à distance. Les études récentes sur l’e-Learning (utilisation des technologies éducatives en classe pour connecter les apprenants aux programmes et à l’enseignement) se sont concentrées sur les relations entre le corps enseignant et les étudiants plutôt que sur la question de savoir si (ou non) ces technologies favorisent une communauté d’apprentissage efficace (Garrison & Archer, 2000). Pourquoi l’e-Learning intéresse-t-il les collèges et les universités ? On peut soutenir que l’enseignement à distance, ou l’utilisation d’ordinateurs et de systèmes de gestion de l’apprentissage (LMS) tels que Blackboard, Moodle et Canvas, pour connecter les étudiants et les enseignants dans un environnement d’apprentissage qui utilise les téléphones mobiles, les ordinateurs portables et les technologies des médias sociaux, est en train d’évoluer en tant qu’opportunité pédagogique. Les chercheurs du milieu du vingtième siècle discutent des questions, des concepts et des tendances concernant l’évolution de la pédagogie par le biais des ordinateurs et de la connectivité à l’internet.
