Aby utrzymać populację nietoperzy na obecnym poziomie, konieczne są wspólne działania społeczeństwa, naukowców, organizacji pozarządowych i agencji rządowych na rzecz ochrony nietoperzy i dzikiej przyrody w Indiach. W Azji Południowo-Wschodniej występuje 123 gatunki nietoperzy, z których prawie wszystkie występują w Indiach. Stanowią one jedną czwartą fauny ssaków Indii i ponad jedną dziesiątą światowej populacji nietoperzy.W Indiach nietoperze występują głównie w ruinach archeologicznych, na dużych drzewach w świątyniach i tunelach o znaczeniu archeologicznym, które są wykorzystywane przez nietoperze jako miejsca odpoczynku. Pomimo znaczenia nietoperzy dla różnorodnego ekosystemu Indii, nie są one objęte oficjalną ochroną. W świetle powyższej dyskusji można zatem stwierdzić, że istnieje duże zapotrzebowanie na tego typu badania.
