On parle peu au Brésil de l’association entre public et privé dans les années 1970, notamment en ce qui concerne la mise en place de réseaux d’enseignement public. Le Centro Educacional de Niterói (CEN) était une école publique subventionnée en grande partie par des fonds publics, qui non seulement produisait des méthodologies d’enseignement expérimentales et innovantes, mais développait également des activités d’intérêt public, bien qu’il soit situé dans le domaine des écoles d’excellence de la ville de Niterói. Ce livre permet de comprendre les modalités de l’éducation brésilienne, qui permettent de comprendre comment l’association symbiotique entre public et privé s’est construite dans les années 1950-1970 dans l’État de Rio de Janeiro. Cette lecture va à l’encontre d’une certaine tradition historiographique de l’éducation brésilienne, qui considère les processus et les phénomènes éducatifs comme de simples expressions des événements politiques et économiques de leur époque.
