L’étude a porté sur l’utilisation de biochar sur des sols argileux sablonneux pour réduire la lixiviation de polluants organiques, par exemple des hydrocarbures, des pesticides ou des antibiotiques. Le biochar de bois analysé dans notre étude était le sous-produit solide d’un gazéificateur à grande échelle destiné à alimenter une centrale thermique. L’objectif de la recherche était de mettre en évidence plusieurs avantages environnementaux grâce à l’utilisation innovante de ce biochar comme amendement du sol. Des expériences de sorption par lots ont montré que le biochar ajouté au sol améliorait les coefficients de répartition. Des expériences de lessivage en colonne ont montré une diminution du débit d’eau interstitielle et donc un risque réduit de lessivage des polluants. Des modèles numériques ont permis de relier les observations des expériences en lots et en colonnes.
