Maike Meyer beschäftigt sich in ihrer Dissertation mit Korruption in deutschen Kommunalverwaltungen. Dabei verfolgt sie zwei Fragen: In welchem Ausmaß, in welcher Form und wo tritt Korruption in kommunalen Verwaltungen auf?  Welche individuellen und kontextuellen Faktoren haben Einfluss darauf, dass Bedienstete kommunaler Verwaltungen sich korrupt bzw. nicht korrupt verhalten? Grundlegend für ihre Forschungsarbeit ist eine empirische Mixed-Methods-Studie, die in den Jahren 2014 bis 2016 durchgeführt wurde. Die Arbeit begegnet relevanten wissenschaftlichen Forschungsdesideraten und zeigt Ansatzpunkte für wirksame Strategien zur Korruptionsbekämpfung auf.
