O conflito entre humanos e elefantes é comum nas terras agrícolas devido à invasão humana no habitat da vida selvagem, o que constitui um sério desafio de conservação em muitos países da África subsariana. Apesar de ter sido utilizada uma variedade de estratégias de gestão de conflitos para a mitigação, o impacto positivo não é muito grande, a invasão de culturas continua a ser cada vez mais alarmante, especialmente na periferia do Parque Nacional dos Camarões, devido ao aumento da colonização humana. O comportamento dos elefantes que invadem as culturas tornou-se recentemente no centro do conflito entre o homem e a fauna bravia nesta área. Os aldeões tomaram a dianteira da batalha, lutando para empurrar os elefantes de volta para a natureza, utilizando todos os tipos de medidas de dissuasão acessíveis para parar as actividades de alimentação e forrageamento dos elefantes nas suas terras agrícolas. Consequentemente, ocorrem frequentemente baixas em ambos os lados do conflito, justificando uma estratégia de conservação de mitigação, como a compensação das aldeias afectadas num possível plano de reinstalação e a translocação de alguns dos elefantes para áreas de proteção distantes.
