Il bacino del Gange-Brahmaputra-Meghna (GBM) è considerato il bacino più vulnerabile al mondo ai cambiamenti climatici. Il bacino è anche riconosciuto come una delle aree più soggette a rischi naturali legati all’acqua, inondazioni e siccità, che minacciano ogni anno un gran numero di persone. Lo studio presentato in questo libro mira ad acquisire informazioni rilevanti per le politiche di adattamento ai cambiamenti climatici e per la gestione delle risorse idriche locali, al fine di garantire la sostenibilità della regione. È stato utilizzato un modello idrologico distribuito a macroscala, H08, per valutare gli impatti dei cambiamenti climatici sull’idrologia a scala di bacino, tra cui il deflusso, l’evapotraspirazione, la radiazione netta e l’umidità del suolo, utilizzando i GCM CMIP5 con uno scenario ad alte emissioni attraverso tre esperimenti temporali: il presente (1979-2003), il futuro prossimo (2015-2039) e il futuro remoto (2075-2099). Le informazioni ottenute contribuiranno a indirizzare la gestione delle risorse idriche nel bacino e a migliorare la progettazione di misure di adattamento. I risultati possono essere presi in considerazione anche per la gestione del rischio, la pianificazione per la prevenzione, la mitigazione del rischio di disastri e la formulazione di politiche per il futuro sviluppo delle risorse idriche.
