Em maio de 2022, uma equipa de programa do Instituto de Desenvolvimento Sustentável, Amigos da Terra Libéria, investigou os impactos sociais e ambientais das plantações de palma de óleo de Maryland na Libéria. A investigação concluiu que os conflitos fundiários e a desflorestação têm vários impactos negativos nas comunidades. A MOPP não respeitou os direitos de posse da terra nem seguiu as normas do Consentimento Livre, Prévio e Informado, incluindo a reinstalação sem reparação e a destruição de quintas e cidades antigas sem indemnização (suficiente) ou restituição. Durante a aquisição e desocupação de terras pelo MOPP, as comunidades sofreram a perda das suas explorações agrícolas e a identificação de aldeias como 'aldeias de ocupantes', o que levou à restrição do acesso a terras agrícolas, ao aumento da insegurança alimentar e à redução do rendimento das culturas de rendimento para sustentar as famílias. O MOPP destruiu zonas de elevado valor de conservação e destruiu o crescimento de florestas secundárias, o que afectou zonas importantes para a biodiversidade. A MOPP é uma das quatro plantações industriais de óleo de palma em grande escala na Libéria, no condado de Maryland. Tem uma fábrica de óleo de palma numa empresa comum com a Golden Veroleum Liberia. O seu contrato de concessão de 2011 inclui 8 800 hectares para plantações industriais de óleo de palma.
