Una delle soluzioni presentate come risposta adeguata a questa eterogeneità è la 'didattica differenziata'.Questa ricerca si occupa dell’impatto di questo approccio sull’insegnamento/apprendimento del FLE, in particolare nella classe quinta della scuola primaria.La differenziazione è un tentativo di omogeneizzare l’eterogeneità per aiutare gli studenti con diverse particolarità a padroneggiare le competenze di base comuni.L’insegnamento differenziato è quindi inteso come uno strumento pratico adattato alle differenze, che offre un’ampia gamma di approcci diversificati che consentono a ciascun allievo di progredire secondo il proprio itinerario, le proprie potenzialità e preferenze.
