Nachhaltigkeit ist ein zentrales Thema der heutigen Zeit und war Gegenstand von Studien und Forschungen in verschiedenen Wissensbereichen, darunter auch im Bildungswesen. In unserer Arbeit haben wir versucht, die folgenden Forschungsfragen zu beantworten: Welches kritische Verständnis von Nachhaltigkeit haben GrundschülerInnen? Welche Dimensionen werden bei der Äußerung von Ideen über Nachhaltigkeit dargestellt? Die Analysen ergaben, dass die Vorstellungen der Schüler über Nachhaltigkeit mit der Sorge um die Umwelt verbunden sind. Dieses Verständnis wurde sicherlich durch den Kontext der aktuellen Umweltkrise begünstigt. Allerdings wurden auch andere Dimensionen in das Verständnis von Nachhaltigkeit einbezogen, die in den Bereich der Komplexität fallen. Heutzutage ist die Nachhaltigkeit ein Thema, das im Unterricht bevorzugt behandelt werden sollte, insbesondere um die Aspekte eines Entwicklungsmodells darzustellen und zu diskutieren, das sich als schädlich für die Gesellschaft und die Umwelt erwiesen hat.
