L’incapacità dell’Assemblea municipale di Bolgatanga e della Zoomlion Ghana Limited di affrontare il problema richiede la partecipazione della popolazione, poiché le famiglie, in quanto parte del pubblico, consumano più prodotti di plastica e generano di conseguenza un’enorme quantità di rifiuti. Alla luce di ciò, lo studio è stato condotto con i seguenti obiettivi: accertare la situazione dei rifiuti di plastica, identificare le pratiche di gestione dei rifiuti di plastica delle famiglie e le sfide da affrontare, nonché le modalità per ridurre i rifiuti di plastica. Lo studio basato su questionari è stato condotto in 12 aree elettorali selezionate in modo casuale. L’81,67% delle famiglie ritiene che la situazione dei rifiuti di plastica sia grave. Le pratiche di gestione dei rifiuti domestici identificate includono: stoccaggio temporaneo dei rifiuti in bidoni della spazzatura, scatole, secchi e grandi sacchi di polietilene.
